# Quickstart

> Create a free CaseDock account and start researching public case records in minutes.

**1. Create a free account**

Go to [casedock.net/signup](https://casedock.net/signup) and verify your email. A verified account is required for member features. The free plan includes 400 distinct public cases per day.

**2. Open the dashboard**

Open the [dashboard](https://dashboard.casedock.net/app) and pick the **Missing**, **Unidentified**, or **Unclaimed** tab. After you sign up, you can take a guided tour of the interface.

**3. Narrow the list**

Search by name, case number, CaseDock ID, or place, then filter by sex, source, state, age range, dates, and foul-play indicators. You can also type a plain-English question into **Ask AI** to fill in filters. See [Find cases](https://docs.casedock.net/guides/finding-cases.md).

**4. Open a case**

Select a case to view its details, evidence tags, and source link. Each case has a permanent CaseDock ID, like `CD-M-0000123`, that you can share or save.

**5. Look for leads**

From a case, run a [cross-reference](https://docs.casedock.net/guides/cross-reference.md) to see ranked research leads from records of the opposite type. Verify any lead with the original source.

**6. Track your work**

Mark the case as unreviewed, in progress, or reviewed in the [Research Desk](https://docs.casedock.net/guides/research-tools.md#research-desk), add private notes, or save it to a [collection](https://docs.casedock.net/guides/organize.md#collections).
