# Research tools

> Evidence tags, the Research Desk, analytics, and AI research aids.

## Evidence tags

Details like clothing, tattoos, and identifiers are pulled out of case text and tagged, so you can compare records quickly. Tags are automated, may be incomplete, and should not be treated as verified facts.

## Research Desk

The Research Desk keeps your review organized:

* Mark cases as **unreviewed**, **in progress**, or **reviewed**
* Keep private notes on cases
* Step through the list with <kbd>J</kbd> and <kbd>K</kbd>
* Export your research

Private notes are never sent to AI features.

## Analytics

View charts, key insights, and data-quality checks for the records in view, on a dashboard you can customize.

## AI case analysis and research brief

* **Summarize a case** in plain language
* **Explain a link** between two records
* **Get a research brief** on your current view, with suggested next steps

AI features are available on every plan at no extra cost. They send only your question, aggregate counts, or public case text, and may be rate limited during busy periods.

> [!WARNING]

> All AI output is an unverified research aid.

## Command palette and tours

Press <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>/<kbd>⌘</kbd> + <kbd>K</kbd> to jump anywhere or run a filter. A guided tour is available after you sign up.

## Offline access and themes

Install the app to keep recently viewed cases available on a saved offline page when your connection drops. Choose a light or dark theme in settings.
